Introspect the VMs

You can introspect the discovered VMs to identify running components.

Prerequisites

• Ensure that you have the required permissions. For more information, see Overview Application Transformer for VMware Tanzu Roles.

• Verify that the VMs are associated with valid credentials.
• Ensure that the VM user has required permissions. See ConfigurationVMs.

Procedure

1. Click Discovery from the main menu.
2. On the left navigation page, go to Inventory > Virtual Machines.
3. Select one or more VMs from the table.
4. Click Introspect.
5. Select a credential from the list.

   If you do not have a defined credential, select Add Credential, enter the credentials, and alias.

   Note: It is optional to provide the credentials if the VMs have valid credentials or global defaults are set. Any credential selected from the list will only be used once for this task and will not change the existing associations to the VM.

Results

You can see the discovered components for a VM by expanding the VM from the table.

What to do next

Perform one of the following:

• Add custom signatures if expected components were not discovered.
• Perform Topology Discovery on the discovered components, or manually group them into Applications.
• Containerize one or more components.
