To enhance monitoring and data collection capabilities, you can integrate the Management Pack for VMware Integrated OpenStack with the vRealize Operations Management Pack for vCenter, and the vRealize Operations Management Pack for NSX for vSphere.

If you intend to work with these management packs, for the most efficient use of resources, configure the adapters of the management pack in the following order.

  1. Management Pack for VMware Integrated OpenStack
  2. Management Pack for vCenter
  3. Management Pack for NSX for vSphere
  4. Endpoint Operations agents for the Endpoints
Note:

Each management pack populates a particular area of the user interface with specific data. If you choose not to integrate the Management Pack for VMware Integrated OpenStack with these management packs, some areas of the OpenStack user interface will not be populated with data, as shown in the following table.

Note:

If OpenStack is using vCenter for the compute backend, an instance of the vCenter adapter must be configured to monitor the vCenter environment that is registered with OpenStack. If this is not done, hosts and virtual machines will show up as "Non-ESXi Hosts" and "Non-ESXi Virtual Machines".

Note:

Capacity is only calculated for the storage infrastructure when using vCenter data stores.

Table 1. OpenStack Integration with vRealize Management Packs
Management Pack Required by Description
Management Pack for vCenter Openstack vCenter Storage Infrastructure dashboard If the OpenStack deployment is using vCenter for the compute component, the vRealize Management Pack for vCenter provides integration with the data that the management pack collects for vCenter, such as additional metrics and capacity calculations.
Endpoint Operations
  • OpenStack Services dashboard
  • OpenStack Services navigation tree
The Management Pack for VMware Integrated OpenStack takes advantage of the Endpoint Operations plug-ins for monitoring the availability and resource use of OpenStack controller services, such as nova-compute, neutron-server, and cinder-volume. In addition, by integrating with Endpoint Operations, you can monitor the availability and resource use of OpenStack web, database and messaging applications, including MySQL, Apache, RabbitMQ, and Memcached.
Management Pack for NSX for vSphere OpenStack Network Infrastructure dashboard If the OpenStack deployment is using NSX for vSphere for the networking component, this management pack provides integration with the data that the management pack collects, such as additional metrics, and monitoring of the networking infrastructure.
