VMware vRealize Operations Management Pack for Storage Devices | 26 APR 2019 | Build 13462779

What's in the Release Notes

The release notes cover the following topics:

Introduction

vRealize Operations Management Pack for Storage Devices provides you with view of your entire storage devices, from your host, through your storage network, and out to the storage array. With this solution, you can use vRealize Operations Manager to monitor and troubleshoot capacity and performance problems on different components of your storage area network and network attached storage.

vRealize Operations Management Pack for Storage Devices 7.5 is not a continuation of the older versions of the vRealize Operations Management Pack for Storage Devices and there is no upgrade path to 7.5 from the last released version 6.0.5 of the Management Pack for Storage Devices.

What's New

  • A Slow drain device detection for fiber channel switch ports. The storage adapter monitors buffer-to-buffer credits and issues a warning when the credit count becomes zero. Slow drain device detection helps in avoiding congestion in the fiber channel infrastructure.
  • Performs iSCSI name discovery and includes iSCSI qualified name for a LUN apart from NAAID.

Compatibility

For compatibility between products, please refer to the VMware Product Interoperability Matrices.

Scalability

The Management Pack for Storage Devices collects physical storage data objects through vSphere APIs from VASA enabled devices and through CIM servers. The scale of the management pack depends on the number of objects and metrics collected per object. Depending storage topology requirements, the number of Management Pack for Storage Devices objects varies in each environment.

Known Issues

  • Management Pack for Storage Devices collects data only on Advanced or Enterprise Licenses

Before discovering the objects or collecting the metrics of discovered objects, the Management Pack for Storage Devices checks the license information of vRealize Operations Manager and collects data only if the product license is Advanced or Enterprise.

For vRealize Operations Manager 7.0 and earlier versions, the above statement is true only when the Management Pack for Storage Devices is newly deployed and configured.

    Workaround:

For vRealize Operations Manager 7.0 and earlier versions, if the product license is manually changed while the Management Pack for Storage Devices is running, you need to restart the Management Pack for Storage Devices so that the new license information is available.
