There are three common reasons you may be upgrading your Management Packs in vRealize Operations Cloud: New Version Update, Emergency Update, and Interoperability Update. Steps for each are outlined below.
New Version Update
Upon release, the customer is responsible for upgrading to the latest version of the Integration. When the Integration update is released, VMware will send an email to the organization owner with information on that release and a request to update.
VMware supports the current version and one prior version on our cloud infrastructure. If the customer is on an older version and has not updated by the time the next update for that pack is released, VMware will email a notice and update the pack to maintain compatibility.
New Version Process
VMware adds the update to the marketplace.
VMWare emails the customer with details about the pack and indicates that the integration should be updated by the customer. If the customer is on an older version of the pack they will be informed that the pack will be updated by VMware within 72 hours.
VMware will send another email announcing that the integration will be updated 24 hours before the upgrade occurs.
VMware installs the update into the Organization.
VMware verifies the update was successful and that the adapters are collecting again.
The organization owner is emailed indicating the success of the update.
Steps to Upgrade the Management Pack
Go to Data Sources > Integrations
Click on 'Repository' (next to Accounts)
Search for the {{MPName}}
'Upgrade Available' flag would appear on it
Click on three dots on the Management Pack
Click on the 'Upgrade' option
Emergency Update
Occasionally, in response to a system degradation issue or a security bulletin, there is an emergency update released for an Integration. In those cases, VMware will do an immediate update to the pack for security or system stability.
Emergency Update Process
Security or system degradation issue is discovered and a patch is released by VMware or third-party vendors.
If the vulnerability or degradation is severe and the resolution is not available, VMware may disable the integration while a solution is developed. An email to the Organization owner will be sent notifying them of this precaution.
The organization owner is emailed a description of the issue and the resolution by VMware.
VMware installs the update into the Organization.
VMware verifies the update was successful and that the adapters are collecting again.
The organization owner is emailed indicating the success of the update.
Interoperability Update
In the rare occasion that an update to the Aria Operations Cloud platform causes the integration to lose functionality or stop working completely, VMware will perform an update to the pack to maintain or restore functionality.
Interoperability Process
VMware discovers that a new update to the platform will cause a loss of functionality, either full or partial.
VMware will announce an urgent interoperability update and that the integration will be upgraded by VMware. This announcement will be delivered twice, 72 hours and 24 hours before the upgrade occurs.
On the day, VMware installs the pack into the Organization.
VMware verifies the update was successful and that the adapters are collecting again.
The organization owner is emailed indicating the success of the update.
