Migration to the VMware Site Recovery Manager Virtual Appliance

You can migrate your Site Recovery Manager 8.3.x instance from Windows to the Site Recovery Manager 8.3.x virtual appliance and then upgrade to Site Recovery Manager 8.5.0.4 Virtual Appliance. Resolved Issues

  • NEW You are unable to log in to Site Recovery Manager with an Active Directory user

    You are unable to log in to Site Recovery Manager with an Active Directory user. When you check the logs, you see the following error: User 'xxx' not found in user directory.

    This issue is fixed in Site Recovery Manager 8.5.0.4.

  • NEW The Site Recovery Manager service stops responding

    If the peerId of a storage device is not set correctly, the Site Recovery Manager service might stop responding.

    This issue is fixed in Site Recovery Manager 8.5.0.4.

  • NEW The vpxd service on the Site Recovery Manager appliance stops responding

    The Site Recovery Manager appliance fails to properly clean up the collector filters causing the vpxd service to stop responding.

    This issue is fixed in Site Recovery Manager 8.5.0.4.

  • NEW Datastore status appears as Unknown

    When you check a datastore from the vSphere user interface, the status of the datastore appears as Unknown.

    This issue is fixed in Site Recovery Manager 8.5.0.4.

  • NEW After performing a Disaster Recovery to the remote site and enabling protection of virtual machines at the remote site, the replication status of the VMs is Not Active

    When you perform a Disaster Recovery of virtual machines to a remote site with multiple clusters and enable the protection of the VMs at the remote site once the primary site is back online, the Replication status of the VMs is Not Active with the following error: 'No connection to VR Server.'

    This issue is fixed in Site Recovery Manager 8.5.0.4.

Known Issues

  • NEW Upgrading the Site Recovery Manager Appliance from version 8.3 earlier than 8.3.1.6 to version 8.5.0.4 results in a blank configuration

    When you attempt to upgrade the Site Recovery Manager 8.3.x appliance to Site Recovery Manager 8.5.0.4 the upgrade results in a blank configuration because the drconfig.xml file path is changed in version 8.4 and later.

    Workaround 1:

    1. SSH to the Site Recovery Manager 8.3.1.x appliance and run the following command:
      mkdir -p /opt/vmware/dr/conf
      ln -s /opt/vmware/srm/conf/drconfig.xml /opt/vmware/dr/conf/drconfig.xml
    2. Upgrade to Site Recovery Manager 8.5.0.4.

    Workaround 2: Upgrade the Site Recovery Manager 8.3.x appliance to version 8.3.1.6 and then perform an upgrade to 8.5.0.4.
