Installation and Upgrade

For information about installing and upgrading Site Recovery Manager, see Site Recovery Manager Installation and Configuration.

For the supported upgrade paths for Site Recovery Manager, select Upgrade Path and VMware Site Recovery Manager in the VMware Product Interoperability Matrices.

If you are running Site Recovery Manager 8.6.0.x, upgrade to Site Recovery Manager 8.6.0.2. See Upgrading Site Recovery Manager in Site Recovery Manager 8.6 Installation and Configuration for instructions about upgrading Site Recovery Manager.

If you use vSphere Replication with Site Recovery Manager 8.6.0.x, upgrade the vSphere Replication appliance to version 8.6.0.2. See the vSphere Replication 8.6.0.2 Release Notes for information about vSphere Replication 8.6.0.2.

NOTES:

  • VMware Site Recovery Manager 8.5.x was the last general version that supports storage policy protection groups (SPPGs). You must either remove or migrate your SPPGs to regular array-based replication protection groups before upgrading to Site Recovery Manager 8.6.x. Site Recovery Manager 8.5.0.5 and later has a dedicated Storage Policy Protection Group (SPPG) migration tool that you can use to migrate your SPPGs to regular array-based replication protection groups. See, Migrating Storage Policy Protection Groups to Array-Based Replication Protection Groups to learn how to use the tool.

  • If the vCenter Server instances on the protected and recovery sites are in Enhanced Linked Mode, they must be direct replication partners. Otherwise, upgrade might fail.

Resolved Issues

  • New - The Site Recovery Manager inventory fails to populate when configuring the site

This issue occurs when you use vRealize Orchestrator with vCenter Server instances in Enhanced Linked Mode.

This issue is fixed in Site Recovery Manager 8.6.0.2.

  • New - Reprotect fails with an error

After an unsuccessful reprotect operation, the replica vmdk files are deleted. As a result any subsequent reprotect operations fail because of the missing vmdk files.

This issue is fixed in vSphereReplication 8.6.0.2 and Site Recovery Manager 8.6.0.2.

  • New - You are unable to remove the protection from virtual machines

When you attempt to remove some virtual machines from a protection group, you receive the following error message: "Internal error: Received unexpected exception from the multi-site operation."

This issue is fixed in Site Recovery Manager 8.6.0.2.

  • New - High CPU usage when using vCenter Server 8.0

If you are using vCenter Server 8.0, once the CPU utilization reaches 100%, you are unable to log in to vCenter Server. If you are already logged in to vCenter Server, all operations are very slow.

This issue is fixed in Site Recovery Manager 8.6.0.2.
