Understand map basics

The Uhana by VMware dashboard displays a map and related KPI charts. The Uhana by VMware platform contains a framework for dynamically defining and computing KPIs in a real-time system.

The Uhana by VMware dashboard figure represents a dashboard and its parts. See the Dashboard Elements table for callout descriptions.

Dashboard Elements Table

ID Element Description
1 Selection panel Focus the data displayed in the map and charts using filtering options including
  • all-view of entire network & its elements
  • cell - individual cells
  • enodeB - individual enodeBs
  • Preset selects a specific group of network elements. You can manually add presets before use in the System > Preset menu. See Set what data to view in the dashboard for more details.
2 Map detail Color coded ranges sync to map elements. Switch between map and satellite views. Zoom in or out.
3 Cell detail Hover over the cell image to get display details.
4 Chart legend
  • Dotted lines (....) indicate no data has been received for this period.
  • Straight lines (____) indicate user KPIs reporting data.
5 Chart tabs Data options for viewing KPIs
  • Cells
  • Sectors
  • Composed KPIs
  • Interference
  • QCIs
8 Chart filters
  • Select a smaller timeframe to get more detail by clicking and dragging a chart selection.
  • Select a specific cell.

Set what data to view in the dashboard

This section describes how to manipulate the dashboard to view data in the platform.

  1. Use the Selection Panel to

    • Group Data by Technology or cell
    • Select cell frequency - LTE or NR
    • Set Range Selection
    • Set Time Window
    • Toggle Live update status
    • Share your current view of the Explore page with another user
    • Clear form selections
  2. To view data

    • Click the Live toggle button on to see up-to-date data on the charts
    • Click the Live toggle to off position to see historical data on the charts
  3. Click Go.
  4. To navigate to a specific network element
    • Click Reset if needed
    • Double-click map elements repeatedly until the selection displays
    • Hover over elements to view pop-up menu details
    • Click the link icons below the map to view selected network element KPIs, for example, Feed Event Statistics
  5. To focus on a specific time range on an opened chart, Shift+click and drag the area to inspect and the chart redraws.

Use the data charts in the Explore page

The following tables provides the data charts available for common data consumption. To get to root causes and remediations, use the Focus menu.

Data Chart Description
Cell Charts
Average User Throughput Average DL PDCP user throughput measured as Acknowledged Throughput Volume/Throughput Time where Throughput Volume and Throughput Time exclude the volume and time slot where the DL buffer was emptied
Active UE Downlink Active UEs - Average number of active users in the downlink per active TTI where a user is considered active if it has data pending in the DL buffer
Uplink Active UEs Average number of active users in the uplink per active TTI where a user is considered active if it has data pending in the UL buffer
Cell Utilization DL PRB Cell Utilization - Average DL PRB used computed as the sum of DL PRBs used for initial transmissions and retransmissions and normalized by the total number of PRBs available for the selected ROP (%)
UL PRB Cell utilization Average UL PRB use computed as the sum of UL PRBs used for DTCH and DCCH_CCCH and normalized by the total number of PRBs available for the selected ROP (%)
CCE Cell Utilization Average PDCCH CCE use computed as the weighted sum of CCEs used per aggregation level and normalized by the total number of CCEs available for the selected ROP (%)
ERAB Drop Rate Percentage of UE context and ERAB releases with an abnormal cause code
ERAB Setup Failure Rate Percentage of Initial context and ERAB setups with an abnormal cause code
Agg Spectral Efficiency Average number of DL MAC acknowledged bits carried per resource element (bits/symbol)
Avg Cell Throughput Avg DL PDCP cell throughput measured as total DL PDCP acknowledged volume carried in the selected ROP / Number of seconds in the selected ROP (Mbps)
Average Interference Average uplink interference averaged over all PRBs per antenna branch measured in dBm
Bad VoLTE Speech Quality Rate Percentage of VoLTE sessions considered to have bad uplink VoLTE quality indicated when more than 1% of PDCP packets do not arrive within the packet delay budget (%)
UE DL Throughput Average DL PDCP user throughput for each cell in the selected sector (Mbps)
Uplink Interference Spectrogram Average uplink interference per PRB averaged over selected time range per antenna branch measured in dBm
Sector charts
UE DL Throughput Average DL PDCP user throughput for each cell in the selected sector
Active UEs (Uplink) Average number of active users per active TTI on the uplink
Active UEs (Downlink) Average number of active users per active TTI on the downlink
Cell Utilization Average PDCCH CCE use for each cell in the selected sector
DL PRB Cell Utilization Average DL PRB use for each cell in the selected sector
