The Limit delivery of these assignments to specific computers option in App Volumes helps in determining the type of assignment. The assignment types are as follows: a new assignment, an update to an existing assignment, and a duplicate assignment.

New Assignment

Scenario Description
1 An administrator assigns an application package, pkg1, to a testuser (or testgroup) on a computer, comp1. The administrator can assign the same application package to the testuser (or testgroup) on another computer, comp2.
2 An administrator assigns an application, appln_1, of assignment type Marker or Package to a testuser on computer, comp. The administrator can also assign another application, appln_2, of assignment type Marker or Package to the same user and on the same computer.
3 An administrator assigns an application package, pkg1, to an OU. No computer prefix is specified. This results in the application being assigned to the OU on all computers. The administrator can assign pkg2 to the same OU on a specific computer, comp.

Update Assignment

Scenario Description
1 An administrator assigns an application package, pkg1 to a testuser on a computer, comp. The administrator can assign pkg2 to the same user on the same computer. As an entity can receive only one version of the application package at a time on a specific computer, the assignment to testuser on comp is updated to pkg2. The assignment occurs at the following login session.
2 An administrator assigns an application package, pkg1, to a testgroup on all computers. The administrator can assign pkg2 to the same group on all computers. This group receives pkg2 on all computers because an entity can be assigned only one package version of an application at a time on a computer. As a result, testgroup receives the latest package version assignment.

In the following screenshot, testuser1 is already assigned a package, pkg_notepad++, on a computer whose name begins with w10agt. This package has the Current marker. When the user is assigned the package assignment type of pkg_notepad++ to the same user on the same computer, the assignment type is considered an update. As an entity can receive only one version of the application package at a time on a specific computer, the assignment to testuser1 is updated to pkg_notepad++ of package assignment type.

Skip (Duplicate) Assignment

An administrator assigns an application package to a testuser on a computer, comp. If the administrator unintentionally selects the same entity to assign the same package version of the application on the same computer, the assignment is skipped because the application package is a duplicate.
