You can set up native authentication for Automation Config in the user interface using the Local Users workspace. User names and passwords for local users are natively stored in Automation Config. You can use this workspace to manage local user settings, such as user passwords. You can also use this workspace to create or clone local users.

You can use roles in Automation Config to create specific management roles, and then add the appropriate users to those roles. Roles control which minions each user can view and which operations a user can perform in the user interface.

By default, a local user is associated with each Salt master key used for authentication.

Creating a Local User

Only superusers, or users with Create user permission, can create local users. User names are not case-sensitive.

To create a user:

  1. Click Administration > Local Users on the side menu. Then, click the Create button.
  2. Enter a user name and password, and select any roles you want to add the user to.
Note: All new users are added to the User role by default.
  3. Click Save.
  4. (Optional) To clone a user, under Administration > Local Users, select the user you want to clone and click Clone. Enter a user name and password, and select any roles you want to add the user to and click Save.

After creating your local users, you can change user settings such as the root password under Administration > Local Users and selecting the user you want to update.
