The Horizon Capacity dashboard provides long-term capacity analysis for RDS Farms and VDI Pools.
For RDS Farm, it is based on the 99th percentile of the last 1 month. VMware Aria Operations calculates the session remaining every 5 minutes. For each RDS Host, it excludes the overhead from Windows to obtain the accurate number of the footprint of the sessions. This 5 minute data is serialized over a month, and the value at 99th percentile is taken. With this algorithm, it considers peak while being accurate about session size every 5 minutes.
Design Consideration
This dashboard is designed to provide overall capacity of all RDS Farms and VDI Pools, with the ability to drill down to a specific farm or a pool.
How to Use the Dashboard
Review the heat maps that are relevant to your environment.
-
If the threshold is not meeting your requirements, edit the heat map to adjust the settings.
-
Selecting any of the farms or pools shows their corresponding property.
If you use RDS Farm, review the RDS Farms table.
-
Each table shows the relevant capacity information for a farm.
-
The RDS Hosts column shows the current (read: latest) situation. It does not show average, so if you have changed the number of hosts in the past, it only shows the latest situation.
-
You can select any row and the selected farm's corresponding property is shown. The farm utilization is also automatically plotted.
If you use VDI Pool, review the VDI Pool table.
-
Each table shows the relevant capacity information for a pool.
-
Note that the Desktop column shows the current (read: latest) usable desktop. It does not show the average, if there were more or less usable desktops in the past, this information does not get reflected. It only shows the latest situation.
-
You can select any row and the selected pool's corresponding property is shown. The pool utilization is also automatically plotted.
Point to Note
The dashboard shows both RDS and VDI. If you have only one of them, collapse the widgets you do not need, and expand the ones you need.
