VMware Aria Operations for Networks collects and processes IPv6 flows from VMware vCenter and NSX data sources.

IPv6 is designated by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) as the successor to IPv4 providing the following benefits:

  • Increased address length. The increased address space resolves the problem of address exhaustion and eliminates the need for network address translation. IPv6 uses 128-bit addresses compared with the 32-bit addresses used by IPv4.
  • Ability for improved address autoconfiguration of nodes.

Procedure

  1. On the Settings page, click System Configuration.
Note: The System Configuration tab is visible only to the admin user.
  2. Switch the IPv6 Flow Processing toggle to true.
    Note:

As IPv6 addresses occupy more space in memory and disk, enabling IPv6 flow processing can reduce the platform and the collector capacity by up to 20%.

Results

After you enable this feature, VMware Aria Operations for Networks takes a few minutes to start collecting and processing IPv6 flows.

To view the list of IPv6 flows, from the left navigation, go to Entities > Flows and filter flows by Flow Type.
