In the Network Map page, you can group multiple entities together for the better management and visibility. In the Network Map page, groups define a set of multiple entities. A group can also contain other groups. Groups are used to organize the entity list and to provide a context to the visualization in the network map. You can also use groups when searching for entities and paths.

VMware Aria Operations for Networks automatically creates some types of groups. For example, the system groups virtual entities inside the same physical host. You can also add your own groups, delete groups, and edit existing groups.
Note: You cannot edit or delete system-generated groups.

Procedure

  1. In the Network Map page, click Edit in the lower-right corner.
  2. After you click Edit, you can do the following:
    Option Action
Add a group To add a group, do the following:
    1. Click the Add Group icon located in the lower-right corner.
    2. In the Create Group window, in the Name text box, enter a group name.
    3. From the Entities drop-down, select all the entities that you want to add in the group.
      Note:
      • You can select entities using device name, groups, IP address, IP range or subnet, and custom search.
      • You can use combination of these options to find entities.
      • You can also select entities in the Network Topology to create groups. You can only select entities which are not part of any previous group. You can not select entities which are part of any existing groups, but you can select a top-level group to create a new group.
      • The custom search enables you to find entities using SQL like queries.
      • If you use the IP range/subnet or custom search to create a group, the group can change size dynamically. This happens because, based on your search criteria, devices get added or removed automatically to the group when any data sources get added or removed in VMware Aria Operations for Networks.
      • When using the IP range/subnet or custom search option to create groups, if an entity matches more than one group, then the entity gets added to the group whose name comes first in alphabetical order.
    4. From the Color drop-down, select a color for the group, and click Submit.
Edit a group To edit a group, do the following:
    1. Select the user-defined group that you want to edit, and click Edit Group.
    2. In the Edit Group window, do the required changes.
    3. Click Submit.
Note: You can edit only user-defined groups. You cannot edit system-generated groups.
Delete a group To delete a group, do the following:
    1. Select the group you want to delete, and click Delete Group.
    2. In the Confirm Action window, click Confirm.
