You can discover supported routers, switches, firewalls, and F5 Load Balancer.
Prerequisites
You must verify the network devices supported in VMware Aria Operations for Networks. For more information, see Supported Products and Versions.
Procedure
- From the left navigation pane, go to .
- Click the Device Auto Discovery tab and select Discovery Profiles.
- To create a new discovery profile, click Create Discovery Profile.
- Define the scope based on which you want to discover the devices. You can discover devices either using the seed IP or the IP range.
- To discover devices based on seed IP, from the Discovery Method drop-down, select Seed IP.
Here, the devices are recursively discovered using the CDP and LLDP protocols up to the discovery depth that you define.
- To discover devices based on the IP range, from the Discovery Method drop-down, select Scan IP Range.
The scan IP Range defines the range of IP addresses where network discovery starts a scan.
Note: Network auto discovery supports only a maximum of 4096 IP addresses per collector.
While adding the IP addresses, you can perform the following actions:
- To add a single IP address, specify the IP address.
- To add multiple IP addresses, use commas.
- To add an IP range, specify the IP entries with the - or / range separator.
- To add an IP range and exclude few IP addresses, click Add Exceptions, enter the exception IPs.
- Provide appropriate access credentials and click Next. Supported access credential types are SSH, SNMP v2, SNMPv3, and APIs.
To discover F5 Big-IP Load Balancer devices, you must enter your API credentials.
- Provide a name for saving your discovery profile and set the discovery job schedule.
- You can schedule discovery jobs to:
- Run once at the specified date and time.
- Or, run periodically such as daily, weekly, monthly, or at your defined custom intervals.
- Provide a name for saving your discovery profile.
- Click Submit.
