To create a policy, you can inherit the settings from an existing policy, and you can modify the settings in existing policies if you have adequate permissions. After you create a policy, or edit an existing policy, you can apply the policy to one or more groups of objects.

Policies A policy is a set of rules that you define for VMware Aria Operations to use to analyze and display information about the objects in your environment. You can create, modify, and administer policies to determine how VMware Aria Operations displays data in dashboards, views, and reports.
Operational Policies Determine how to have VMware Aria Operations monitor your objects, and how to notify you about problems that occur with those objects.
Types of Policies There are three types of policies such as default policies, custom policies, and policies that are offered with VMware Aria Operations .
Using the Policy Workspace to Create and Modify Operational Policies You can use the workflow in the policy workspace to create local policies quickly, and update the settings in existing policies. Select a base policy to use as the source for your local policy settings, and modify the thresholds and settings used for analysis and collection of data from objects or object groups in your environment. A policy that has no local settings defined inherits the settings from its base policy to apply to the associated objects or object groups.
Assigning Policies The Policy Assignment workspace displays all the policies available in your environment.
