This section discusses steps to access the Avi Conversion Tool for converting F5 configuration objects to Avi configuration objects.

The Avi Conversion Tool is mainly targeted to be used along with by VMware Professional Services. Please contact your VMware Professional Services engineer, or your Account Team, to get more information about how to obtain and run the tool.

After successfully deploying the Avi Conversion Tool Appliance, the UI can be accessed by browsing the host server (https://<Avi-Conversion-Tool-IP>/.

Available Modes to Run Avi Conversion Tool

The following two modes are available to access Avi Conversion Tool:

  • Online Mode

    • In ths mode, a connection to an F5 appliance is mode using admin credentials to gather configuration, keys, and certificates. .

  • Offline Mode

    • F5 configuration is converted into the corresponding Avi configuration using the bigip.conf files.

In online mode, the additional option available as compared to the offline mode is the ability to generate a report using the discovery option on the Avi Convertion Tool. The other three options - iRule, Configuration, and Migrate are available in both the modes.

Migration Continuation

Starting with Avi Conversion Tool version 2.4.1, the Migration Continuation option is available as the additional method of accessing Avi Conversion Tool. The playbook generation step now automatically creates a .CSV file consisting of a list of virtual services. This CSV file can be downloaded and used in the Migration Continuation workflow. Please note that the Migration Continuation option is available only after you have migrated virtual services at least once by generating a playbook, which will also automatically create the migration .CSV file.
