The Carbon Black App Control Server continuously verifies its connection to Carbon Black File Reputation. If Carbon Black File Reputation is not available, an error on the Licensing tab indicates the reason for the service disruption.
In addition, a built-in Carbon Black File Reputation Unavailable Alert is triggered when expected Carbon Black File Reputation tasks are not performed during a period of time that is specified in the alert (by default, three hours). When triggered, the alert can also send an email notification to a list of alert subscribers.
The three-hour default setting for the Carbon Black File Reputation Unavailable Alert helps eliminate unnecessary alerts for temporary network issues that are resolved before they have significant impact on Carbon Black File Reputation users. You can change the time that Carbon Black File Reputation must be unavailable before the alert is triggered. See Using App Control Alerts for more about alerts.
Another relevant connection to Carbon Black File Reputation is the connection between the console user’s browser and Carbon Black File Reputation. This connection is required for activation of Carbon Black File Reputation, and when you select Analyze on a Carbon Black App Control Console file details page for redirection to the Carbon Black File Reputation file assessment page. When a user navigates to the Licensing tab, the Carbon Black App Control Server checks whether that user can access the Carbon Black File Reputation site and displays the following error message if there is a problem with the connection: "Carbon Black File Reputation is currently not accessible. Please check back later.
