As a service provider, you can forward the VMware Cloud Director Availability provider event notifications to VMware Cloud Director, or by using email delivery. Both delivery channels carry the same event information.

Prerequisites

  • Verify that VMware Cloud Director Availability 4.1 is deployed in the cloud site.
  • If you want to use the email channel for event notifications, verify that you configured the email settings in VMware Cloud Director. See Configure the System Email Settings.

Verify that VMware Cloud Director Availability 4.1 is deployed in the cloud site.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the management interface of the Cloud Replication Management Appliance.
    1. In a Web browser, go to https://Appliance-IP-Address/ui/admin.
    2. Select Appliance login and enter the root user credentials.
    3. Click Login.
  2. Under Settings, next to Syslog click Configure.
    1. To forward the events to the syslog server, in the Syslog address and port text box, enter the syslog server address and the UDP port.
    2. To save the syslog configuration, click Apply.
  3. (Optional) Enable the email event notification channel.
    VMware Cloud Director Availability reads the following email settings from VMware Cloud Director:
    • SMTP server configuration
    • Sender email address
    • Receivers of the email (either explicit email address or the email addresses of system administrators)
    • Default subject prefix
    1. If the SMTP server requires authentication, next to SMTP authentication click Configure and enter the password for the SMTP account.
    2. To test the email event notifications by using the SMTP server configured in VMware Cloud Director, next to Cloud Director Email click Test.
    3. Enter the email address that receives the test notification and click Send.
  4. In the left pane, under Configuration click Notifications.
  5. Under Events, next to System Management Events click Edit.

    If the Cloud Director Email filed is dimmed, provide the SMTP password.

    Option Description
    System Management Channels

    Select Syslog, and or Cloud Director events, and or Cloud director email as the notifications delivery channel. If Syslog is dimmed, the service provider must first configure the syslog server.

    System Management Events Site and policy management events such as pairing, unpairing, policy changes, and others.
  6. To save the configuration for system management event notifications, click Apply.
  7. Under Events, next to System Monitoring Events click Edit.

    If the Cloud Director Email filed is dimmed, provide the SMTP password.

    Option Description
    System Monitoring Channels

    Select Syslog, and or Cloud Director events, and or Cloud director email as the notifications delivery channel. If Syslog is dimmed, the service provider must first configure the syslog server.

    Connectivity poll interval Time interval between polls for connectivity issues. The default value is 30 seconds.
    Configuration poll interval Time interval between polls for configuration issues. The default value is 1 day.
    Certificate expiry threshold The time before a certificate expires to start forwarding events. The default value is 30 days.
  8. To save the configuration for system monitoring event notifications, click Apply.
  9. Under Events, next to Replication Management Events click Edit.

    If the Cloud Director Email filed is dimmed, provide the SMTP password.

    Option Description
    Replication Management Channels

    Select Syslog and or Cloud Director events as the notifications delivery channel. If Syslog is dimmed, the service provider must first configure the syslog server.

    Replication Lifecycle Forward events about replication operations, for example starting a replication, stopping a replication, deleting a replication, syncing a replication, failing over a replication, reversing a replication, and others.
    Replications Reconfigure Forward events when a replication is reconfigured, the owner of the replication changes, the network settings of the replications are reconfigured, the SLA settings or profile changes, and others.
  10. To save the configuration for replication management event notifications, click Apply.
  11. Under Events, next to Replication Monitoring Events click Edit.

    If the Cloud Director Email filed is dimmed, provide the SMTP password.

    Option Description
    Replication Monitoring Channels

    Select Syslog, and or Cloud Director events, and or Cloud director email as the notifications delivery channel. If Syslog is dimmed, the service provider must first configure the syslog server.

    Poll interval Time interval between polls for replication issues. The default value is 5 minutes.
    RPO violation threshold time Only forward events for replications with RPO violation time above this threshold. Use 0 to forward events for any RPO violation. The default value is 30 minutes.
    RPO violation threshold time Only forward events for replications with RPO violations count above this threshold. Use 0 to forward events for any number of replications with an RPO violation. The default value is 0.
  12. To save the configuration for replication monitoring event notifications, click Apply.
  13. Under Settings, next to Monitoring events reposting time click Edit.
    1. In the Events configuration window, enter the time before a given event is forwarded again, while the condition is still active.
    2. To save the configuration for event notifications reposting, click Apply.
      The default Monitoring events reposting time is 24 hours.

Results

VMware Cloud Director Availability starts forwarding provider event notifications to the selected delivery channels.
