To create a new replication, you can choose between either creating a protection or creating a migration. Create a protection when you want to safeguard workloads against disasters and maintain their operation at the source site, and create a migration when you want to move workloads to a new location and make them active there.
When to create a protection
By creating a protection, you set up a disaster recovery contingency for the selected workloads. Once replicated, the workloads in the source site stay active.
Create a protection to ensure business continuity in case of a disaster at the source site.
When to create a migration
By creating a migration, you set up the move of the selected workloads to another site. Once replicated, the workloads in the destination site become active.
Create a migration to move the workloads to a new location. For example, create a migration for moving workloads from an on-premises site to a cloud site.
