Modify the settings of any existing incoming or outgoing replications. The protections allow modifying RPO, instances retention rules, quiesce, and compressing the replication traffic. The migrations only allow compressing the traffic. The replications with a site backed by VMware Cloud Director also allow selecting an SLA profile and VDC compute policies.
Prerequisites
- Verify that VMware Cloud Director Availability 4.7 or later is deployed in both the source and in the destination sites for replications to Cloud Director sites to pre-select the already applied VDC policies.
- Verify that you can access VMware Cloud Director Availability as a tenant or as a provider. For more information, see Accessing VMware Cloud Director Availability.
Procedure
- In the left pane, choose a replication direction by clicking Incoming Replications or Outgoing Replications.
- To edit the settings of replications, select one or more.
- Click .
- In the Replication settings window, modify the available replication settings, according to the type of the selected replications, then click Apply.
Option Description Protection - Select the Target recovery point objective (RPO), alternatively for protections to and from cloud sites backed by VMware Cloud Director, you can also select an SLA profile, if configured.
- Under Retention policy for point in time instances, activate the Enable retention policy toggle, then define rules for instance retention over period of time.
- To ensure consistency before creating an instance, Activate quiesce.
- For better throughput in environments with slow and unstable network connectivity, activate Compress replication traffic.
- For protections to Cloud Director sites, you can also select the VDC policy settings from the following two drop-down menus:
- VDC VM placement policy
- VDC VM sizing policy
Note: When a VDC policy with the same name already applies on the source workload, it is pre-selected for you. You can choose to either keep it, or select another VDC policy.
Migration - For better throughput in environments with slow and unstable network connectivity, activate Compress replication traffic.

Results
In the Tasks pane, a Reconfigure replication settings task runs, applying the selected replication settings.
