Select a new storage policy for the placement of newly recovered workloads. By modifying the selected storage policy, you can move all replica files from one destination datastore to another.

Prerequisites

Verify that VMware Cloud Director Availability 4.7 or later is successfully deployed.

Procedure

  1. In the left pane, choose a replication direction by clicking Incoming Replications or Outgoing Replications.
  2. Select one or more replications.
  3. Click All Actions > Storage settings.
  4. In the Storage settings window, configure the destination storage settings.
    1. Leave Advanced Datastore Settings deactivated and configure the following settings for replications to a Cloud Director site as a destination or for vSphere DR and migration.
      Option Description
A Cloud Director site as a destination
      • To reset the storage policy that currently apples, activate the Reset current storage policy toggle.

If the datastore that the replication resides on no longer belongs to the current storage policy, VMware Cloud Director Availability moves the replication to a datastore that belongs to the current storage policy. If there is a datastore with sufficient free space in the storage policy, the replication can move to that datastore, otherwise, the replication does not move.

      • Alternatively, select the new storage policy placement for the recovered vApps and virtual machines and all of their disks.
      vSphere DR and migration
      • From the VM Storage Policy drop-down menu, select the storage policy to apply on the recovered virtual machines.
      • Then, select a Placement Datastore for the recovered virtual machines and all of their disks.
    2. Alternatively, to configure dedicated storage settings per each virtual machine in the selected replications, activate the Advanced Datastore Settings toggle then configure the following settings under Use flexible storage profile assignment.
Note: This toggle does not show for replications from a Cloud Director site to an on-premises site as a destination. For such replications, you can directly configure the following settings.
      • From the VM Storage Policy drop-down menu, select the storage policy to apply. This menu does not show for replications from a Cloud Director site to an on-premises site as a destination as it already uses the on-premises placement.
      • From the VM Placement Datastore drop-down menu, select the destination datastore to host the virtual machines. This menu only shows for vSphere DR and migration.
      • From the Disk inclusion drop-down menu, select either to Include All or to Exclude All disks from the VM in the destination. Without any disks selected for replication, you cannot continue.
Note: After you replicate a non-encrypted to an encrypted virtual machine, all newly added disks to the destination machine inherit the encrypted storage policy, which encrypts all disks on the VM.
      • Under Disk X, to include this disk in the replicated virtual machine, activate the Replicate toggle. To select a storage policy for this disk, click the Storage policy drop-down menu. For a Cloud Director site as a destination, this option requires RTVM placement. For more information, see Replication tracking placement solution. This menu does not show for replications from a Cloud Director site to an on-premises site as a destination as it already uses the on-premises placement. For vSphere DR and migration only, to select a placement datastore for this disk, click the Placement Datastore drop-down menu.
      • After configuring the advanced datastore settings for all needed virtual machines in the replication, click Apply.

Results

In the Tasks history pane, the Apply storage profile task runs for each of the selected replications.
