There are two types of VMware Cloud Director Container Service Extension users. The following table outlines each user type and the interactions they have with VMware Cloud Director Container Service Extension.

Developer and other Kubernetes users

Develop and deploy application on Kubernetes cluster using kubectl. Kubernetes clusters work like any other Kubernetes cluster implementation. No special knowledge of VMware Cloud Director or VMware Cloud Director Container Service Extension administration is required. You do not require a VMware Cloud Director account.

Organization administrator

As an organization administrator, once the VMware Cloud Director Container Service Extension server is running and Kubernetes templates are available, you can use VMware Cloud Director Container Service Extension client, vcd-cli, to handle Kubernetes cluster management. This includes deploying clusters, adding worker nodes and configuring NFS storage.

As an organization administrator who manages Kubernetes clusters, it is necessary to understand VMware Cloud Director organization administration principles. Your account should hold the privileges required to create vApps and manage them. Finally, it is necessary to understand Kubernetes cluster management, including setting up user access and defining persistent volumes.
