You can add external Kubernetes clusters for backup in VMware Cloud Director Object Storage Extension. Once you add the cluster, it is automatically protected.
Prerequisites
- Verify that the primary node's IP is reachable from the VMware Cloud Director Object Storage Extension backend server.
- Verify that the S3 endpoint can be reached by the external cluster's pod.
Procedure
- Log in to the VMware Cloud Director tenant portal.
- From the More drop-down menu, select Object Storage.
- Click Kubernetes Clusters and then Unprotected Clusters.
- Click Add External Cluster.
- Enter a name for the cluster.
- Click Select File and select the kubconfig file.
- Select a destination region to backup the cluster.
- Set the backup bucket.
You can create a new bucket, select an existing cluster or select an existing bucket.
- To enable encryption, select the Encrypt at rest check box.
- Select an existing S3 credential or create a new credential.
- To activate a scheduled backup, turn on the Backup Schedule toggle and customize the Backup Frequency, Backup TTL and Backup Scope.
- Click Save.
The external cluster is added under
Protected Clusters.
