To back up your cluster, you must activate the backup protection. You can set a schedule to automatically kickoff backups at recurring intervals.

Activate the backup protection to start backing up your Kubernetes clusters. If you don't activate the Backup Schedule, the backup agent is deployed, but the cluster is not protected and no backup can be created. You can still edit the backup schedule later or do an on-demand backup.

Prerequisites

Verify that you have removed any pods that are not running from the cluster.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the VMware Cloud Director tenant portal.
  2. In the primary left navigation panel, under More, select Object Storage.
  3. Click Kubernetes Protection.
  4. Select the Kubernetes cluster that you want to back up and click Start Protection.
  5. (Optional) If your organization is can access multi-region object storage, select the Region where you want to back up the cluster. You can also sort the clusters by their status.
  6. In the Set Bucket options, select or create the bucket, where you want to store the backed up data.
    If you create a New bucket, to activate encryption, select the Encrypt at rest check box.
  7. Click the Backup Schedule toggle switch to activate the scheduled backup.
  8. Enter the Backup Frequency and Backup TTL.
  9. Select the Backup Scope.
  10. Select the Backup Volume, if needed.
  11. (Optional) Click Advanced Settings to set custom backup options, such as ordered resources.
  12. Click Save.
