You can protect your data solution instances by backing them up to an S3 location and restoring them to a new instance.

You can backup solution instances on-demand or by using a custom backup schedule. You can back up and restore only VMware SQL with Postgres and VMware SQL with MySQL instances.

Set up a backup location

You must set up an S3 storage location to store the backed-up VMware Cloud Director extension for Data Solutions solution instances.

You can specify a backup location when you create a VMware SQL with Postgres instance, in the Advanced Settings.

Procedure

  1. Log in to VMware Cloud Director extension for Data Solutions from VMware Cloud Director.
  2. Click Settings > Backup Location.
  3. Click New Location.
  4. Enter the necessary details and click Create.

Set up a backup schedule

You can create a backup schedule to protect your VMware Cloud Director extension for Data Solutions instances.

Procedure

  1. Log in to VMware Cloud Director extension for Data Solutions from VMware Cloud Director.
  2. Click Instances and select the instance for which you want to create set up a backup schedule.
  3. Click Manage Backups > Backup Schedule > Create.
  4. Enter the necessary details and click Confirm.

Create an on-demand backup

You can create an on-demand backup of a solution instance in VMware Cloud Director extension for Data Solutions.

Procedure

  1. Log in to VMware Cloud Director extension for Data Solutions from VMware Cloud Director.
  2. Click Instances and select the instance for which you want to create a backup.
  3. Click Manage Backups > Backups > Backup Now.
    The process usually takes a few minutes.

Restore from backup

Restore a backup to a new VMware Cloud Director extension for Data Solutions solution instance.

Procedure

  1. Log in to VMware Cloud Director extension for Data Solutions from VMware Cloud Director.
  2. Click Backup and Restore and from the Backup list, select the backup that you want to restore, then click Restore.
  3. Customize the deployment settings of the new instance and click Restore.
    The process usually takes a few minutes.
