You can use the Grafana Portal to get insights about the state of the solution nodes and runtime.

Prometheus is an open source systems monitoring and alerting toolkit, which collects and stores metrics from target clusters. Grafana is an open source visualization and analytics software. The Grafana portal provides visual representation of the metrics, collected by Prometheus. See Implement Monitoring with Prometheus and Grafana in the VMware Tanzu Kubernetes Grid documentation.

Prerequisites

  • Verify that the Tanzu Kubernetes Grid clusters in your organization are deployed with Kubernetes 1.22 or later.
  • Verify that a cluster administrator has installed and preconfigured Grafana 7.6.7 or later, provided by the Tanzu Kubernetes Grid cluster.
  • Verify that a cluster administrator has installed and preconfigured Prometheus 2.27 later, provided by the Tanzu Kubernetes Grid cluster.

Configure Grafana and Prometheus for VMware Cloud Director extension for Data Solutions

You must configure Grafana and Prometheus before you begin using the Grafana portal.

Grafana configuration

The Grafana service must be running in the namespace tanzu-system-dashboards, and Contour must be installed to expose the Grafana service through the HTTPProxy custom resource. See Implement Monitoring with Prometheus and Grafana in the VMware Tanzu Kubernetes Grid documentation.

Prometheus configuration

To see the solution statistics, you must add the solution scraping endpoints to the prometheus-server configuration file. See Configuration in the Prometheus documentation.

Table 1. Prometheus Scraping Configurations
Solution Prometheus Scraping Endpoint Scheme
VMware RabbitMQ HTTP or HTTPS
VMware SQL with Postgres HTTPS
VMware SQL with MySQL HTTPS
MongoDB Community HTTP
MongoDB Enterprise HTTP
Confluent Platform HTTP
