About VMware Cloud Director extension for Data Solutions

VMware Cloud Director extension for Data Solutions is a plug-in for VMware Cloud Director, which enables multi-tenancy customers to deliver a portfolio of on-demand caching, messaging and database software at a massive scale. Service providers can offer their tenants an integrated solution, which allows them to operate and manage data-as-a-service across private clouds and sovereign clouds.

The diagram shows how all the extension components work together to deliver data-as-a-service capabilities to VMware Cloud Director users.

What's New in the VMware Cloud Director extension for Data Solutions Documentation

VMware Cloud Director extension for Data Solutions version 1.5 includes the following new features:
  • VMware Data Services Manager Integration

    VMware Cloud Director extension for Data Solutions 1.5 adds two new data solution types, that are a VM-based Postgres database and a MySQL database, provisioned by VMware Data Services Manager. Provider Administrators can configure VMware Data Services Manager for VMware Cloud Director and publish the two VM-based databases to tenants for consumption. Tenant users can create, update, delete, upgrade and backup VMware Data Services Manager Postgres and VMware Data Services Manager MySQL instances.

  • Air-gapped Installation of the Data Solution Operator

    For a VMware Cloud Director environment that does not have outbound access to internet, Provider Administrators now can install VMware Cloud Director Extension for Data Solutions and its Kubernetes Operator in an air-gapped environment.

  • Provider Access to Tenant Data Solutions Portal

    VMware Cloud Director extension for Data Solutions 1.5 allows Provider Administrators to access tenant Data Solutions portal and perform tenant administrative operations.

  • Access Control of Data Instances

    VMware Cloud Director extension for Data Solutions 1.5 allows data instance owner and users with Full Control permission to manage the access control of the instance.
