In the logical design for ESXi, you determine the high-level integration of the ESXi hosts with the other components of the VMware Cloud Foundation instance for providing virtual infrastructure to the management components.

To provide the resources required to run the management components of the VMware Cloud Foundation, each ESXi host consists of the following elements:

  • CPU and memory

  • Storage devices

  • Out of band management interface

  • Network interfaces

Figure 1. ESXi Logical Design

The compute resources of an ESXi host are CPU and memory. The storage resources of the ESXi host are shared non-local storage and local storage for a shared vSAN datastore. The network resources of the ESXi host are NICs for virtual switch uplinks and a card for out of band host management.
