With SDDC Manager, you can initiate a password change for a particular root account for VMware Aria Automation. Unlike password rotation, which generates a randomized password, you provide the new password. You can update only one account password at a time.

Although individual VMware Cloud Foundation accounts support different password requirements, it is recommended that you set new passwords following a common set of requirements across all accounts:

  • Minimum length: 12

  • Maximum length: 20

  • At least 1 lowercase letter

  • At least 1 uppercase letter

  • At least 1 numerical character

  • At least 1 special character (!, @, #, $, ^, *)

  • A dictionary word

  • A palindrome

  • More than 4 monotonic character sequences

  • 3 of the same consecutive characters

Procedure

VMware Cloud Foundation 5.2.1 or later
  1. Log in to SDDC Manager at https://<sddc_manager_fqdn> with a user assigned the Admin role.
  2. In the left pane, navigate to Security > Password management.
  3. On the Password management page, filter the list to include all VMware Aria Automation accounts.
  4. Click the vertical ellipses for the account whose password you want to update and click Update password.
  5. In the Update password dialog box, enter the new password you want to set for the user, and click Update.
  6. Repeat the procedure for the remaining accounts.
VMware Cloud Foundation 5.2 or earlier
  1. Log in to SDDC Manager at https://<sddc_manager_fqdn> with a user assigned the Admin role.
  2. In the left pane, click Security > Password management.

  3. On the Password management page, from the components list, select Automation.

  4. In the table, click the vertical ellipses for the account whose password you want to update, and select Update password.

  5. In the Update password dialog box, enter the new password you want to set for the user, and click Update.

  6. Repeat the procedure for the remaining accounts.
