VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager 1.3 | 31 MAY 2022 | Build 19881415

Check for additions and updates to these release notes.

What's New

The VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager 1.3 introduces the following:

  • In-place upgrade of the VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager appliance

VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager 1.3 supports in-place upgrade from version 1.2 to version 1.3.

  • Support for current versions of VMware Cloud Provider Stack

VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager 1.3 supports the most recent set of VMware products. For information about the VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager interoperability with other VMware products, see VMware Product Interoperability Matrices.

  • VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager stores the information about the deployed environment

In a persistent store embedded with the appliance, VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager stores the information about the deployed environment, such as deployed products and versions. This enables verification and tracking of the deployed environments.

  • Graphical User Interface

This release introduces a user interface (UI) to drive the process of configuring the environment and products you want to deploy. The UI is in addition to the command line interface (CLI) and the REST API. The UI enables reviewing a previously deployed environment, configuring a new environment (which may include VMware Cloud Director, vCloud Usage Meter, vRealize Operations Tenant App, and RabbitMQ), registering data center components, such as vCenter Server, NSX-T, and vRealize Operations Manager, and managing the execution of deployment tasks.

Upgrade

VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager 1.3 supports an in-place upgrade from VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager 1.2.x to version 1.3.

Known Issues

  • New - RabbitMQ VM console prompts you for a new password during the first login

After deploying RabbitMQ by using VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager, when you login for the first time to the RabbitMQ VM console, the console prompts you to configure a new password.

Workaround: Press Enter without specifying a new password.

  • After configuring vRealize Operations Tenant App 8.6 or 8.6.1 with VMware Cloud Director, the vRealize Operations Manager UI is not visible in VMware Cloud Director

After you configure vRealize Operations Tenant App 8.6 or 8.6.1 with VMware Cloud Director 10.3.x, the vRealize Operations Manager UI might not be visible in VMware Cloud Director.

Workaround: You must upload the vRealize Operations Tenant App plug-in to your VMware Cloud Director Service Provider Admin Portal.

    1. From the /opt/vmware/plugin directory on the vRealize Operations Tenant App appliance, copy the plugin.zip file locally to your machine.

    2. Log in to your VMware Cloud Director Service Provider Admin Portal and upload the plug-in file. For information, see Upload a Plug-in in the VMware Cloud Director Service Provider Admin Portal Guide documentation.

    3. Log off and log in to your VMware Cloud Director Service Provider Admin Portal.

  • Тhe connection between VMware Cloud Director and vCenter Server instances gets disrupted

You cannot upload an OVA for VMware Cloud Director 10.4. This happens because VMware Cloud Director 10.4 introduces an enhancement to SSL connectivity which requires you to perform additional steps post-upgrade to ensure that VMware Cloud Director trusts all necessary vSphere certificates. Failure to perform these steps post-upgrade can disrupt the connection between VMware Cloud Director and vCenter Server instances.

    Workaround: See KB 78885.

  • Updating an existing deployment of vRealize Operations Tenant App 2.5 and 2.6 fails

When you use VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager to update an existing vRealize Operations Tenant App 2.5 or 2.6 deployment, the REST API task fails with an ERROR status.

    Workaround:

    1. In vCenter Server, open the vRealize Operations Tenant App VM console.

    2. Manually update the root password for vRealize Operations Tenant App to match the password you configure in the VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager REST API request.

    3. In VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager, run the update REST API request.

  • Different operations in VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager fail

If the VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager appliance runs for more than 30 days without a restart, the vault token expires and you observe issues with different operations in the appliance.

Workaround: Restart the VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager service.

    systemctl restart vcplcm-api.service

  • Deployment and upgrade tasks for vRealize Operations Tenant App can take a long time to complete or fail with an error message

In VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager, when you try to deploy or upgrade vRealize Operations Tenant App, the API task can take a long time to complete or fail with an error message such as:

    ERROR

Vrops TA service or VM tools did not start successfully on VM

    Workaround:

    1. In vCenter Server, open the vRealize Operations Tenant App VM console.

    2. Restart the vRealize Operations Tenant App virtual machine.

    3. In VMware Cloud Provider Lifecycle Manager, run the deploy REST API request.
