When carrying out a reverse migration (migration from the cloud SDDC to an on-premises SDDC) using HCX cold migration, the migration might fail.
Problem
Reverse migration using HCX cold migration fails. In the vSphere Client UI and in the HCX Migration tab, you see the error message vMotion failed. Authenticity of the host's SSL certificate is not verified.
This issue has been observed when using HCX 4.8.2 or 4.9 in combination with vCenter 8.0.2 and 7.0.3 on-premises. VMware recommends using RAV, Bulk, or vMotion migration types for reverse migration with HCX in these circumstances.
Solution
- Log into your cloud SDDC as administrator.
- Power on the VM you want to reverse migrate, and ensure that it is connected to a valid network.
- In the HCX UI, select one of the following migration types to perform a reverse migration: RAV, Bulk, or vMotion.
