Activating Tanzu Kubernetes Grid in your VMware Cloud on Dell EMC SDDC configures SDDC storage, compute, and networking for use with Tanzu Kubernetes Grid and configures the SDDC vCenter Server Appliance to enable use of the VMware Tanzu™ Kubernetes Grid™ Service.

Activation workflow begins in the SDDC Summary tab for an SDDC that has only a single eligible cluster. In an SDDC that has more than one eligible cluster, you activate Tanzu Kubernetes Grid from each cluster card in the VMC Console

Alternatively, you can activate Tanzu Kubernetes Grid by accessing your SDDC from the Launchpad. See Access your SDDC from the Launchpad to Activate Tanzu Kubernetes Grid.

Prerequisites

See SDDC Activation Precheck

Procedure

  1. Log in to the VMware Cloud on Dell EMC console at https://vmc.vmware.com.
  2. On the Software-Defined Data Centers (SDDC) page, click SDDCs and select an SDDC where you want to activate Tanzu Kubernetes Grid.

If the SDDC has more than one eligible cluster, you activate Tanzu Kubernetes Grid from any of the cluster cards in the VMC Console. Otherwise, activation begins on the Capacity and Usage view of the SDDC Summary.

  3. On the cluster card or the Capacity and Usage view, click ACTIONS and select Activate Tanzu Kubernetes Grid.
VMware Cloud on Dell EMC checks the cluster to be sure that it meets requirements for activating Tanzu Kubernetes Grid
  4. Configure the Tanzu Workload Management Network.
    1. Specify the following workload network CIDR blocks for the cluster:
      • Service CIDR
      • Pod CIDR
      • Ingress CIDR
      • Egress CIDR
    2. Click VALIDATE AND PROCEED to validate that the CIDR blocks you have specified are valid for this SDDC.
  5. Review and activate.
Upon successful validation, the system displays the validated CIDR blocks and details of the Tanzu cluster that will be created. Click Activate Tanzu Kubernetes Grid to create this cluster and allocate the CIDR blocks. The SDDC Summary page shows that Tanzu Kubernetes Grid is Activating. The system displays a status message showing the cluster name and the time that activation started. When activation completes, the SDDC Summary page shows that Tanzu Kubernetes Grid is Activated.
