You create an Organization to group related users in Data Management for VMware Tanzu.

Note: Data Management for VMware Tanzu does not allow you to delete an organization after you create it.

Organizations can have multiple databases that are part of different vSphere clusters. Alternatively, multiple organizations can be part of a single vSphere cluster. In either case, databases belong to an Organization rather than the environment on which they are running. DB FQDN Suffix is the fully-qualified distinguished name suffix for the databases that are part of an Organization. Hence, DB FQDN Suffix is configured for an Organization rather than the environment onboarding process.

Prerequisites

Before you add an organization to Data Management for VMware Tanzu, ensure that you can identify:

  • The name and email address of the organization.
  • The VM Configuration Mode that the organization's users will employ when they provision a database: Free Mode or Plans Mode. See Sizing Database Compute Resources for more information about VM configuration modes.
  • The LDAP groups to assign to the Organization Administrator and/or Organization User roles (when you have configured an LDAP server for the Data Management for VMware Tanzu installation, and you want to permit LDAP users to manage or provision databases in the organization).

Procedure

Perform the following procedure to create a new organization:

  1. Select Organizations from the left navigation pane.

    This action displays the Organizations view, a table that lists the configured organizations.

  2. Click CREATE ORGANIZATION in the upper right corner of the view.

    This action opens the Create Organization form.

  3. Specify the Organization Name, company Email address, and DB FQDN Suffix. The company name and DB FQDN Suffix must be unique across the Organizations. DB FQDN Suffix must be configured in the DNS server to ensure proper DNS resolution.

  4. Select the desired VM Configuration Mode for the organization.

    Note: If you specify Plans Mode for an organization, you must define at least one VM plan before the organization's users are permitted to provision a database instance.
  5. If you configured an LDAP server for the Data Management for VMware Tanzu installation, and you want to enable LDAP users to provision databases in this organization, specify the following LDAP Integration properties:

    Property Name Value
    Admin Groups The LDAP groups whose users Data Management for VMware Tanzu should assign the Organization Administrator role in the organization.
    User Groups The LDAP groups whose users Data Management for VMware Tanzu should assign the Organization User role in the organization.
  6. Click ADD to create the organization.

    The new organization is added to the table.

Next Steps

For the newly created organization, configure a DNS forward rule from your DNS server to the DNS server of Data Management for VMware Tanzu. Define an VM plan.
Add a Local user to the organization.
Import LDAP users into the organization.
