With VMware Data Services Manager, you can update and manage passwords of Provider VMs, Agent VMs, and database VMs prior to password expiry or after password expiry.
Based on the role, different users have different permissions to view and edit passwords of appliances:
Passwords of VMs can have either of the following status:
Password Status | Description |
---|---|
Active | Password expiry date is more than 15 days later. You can choose to update or not update the password. |
Expiring Soon | Password expiry date is after 15 days or earlier. Warning is raised for VM Password Expiry alert. Password update is recommended. |
Expired | Password has expired. The status of VM Password Expiry alert becomes critical. You must update the password to continue functions that require involvement of the concerned VM. |
Perform the following steps to change the password of a Provider VM:
Log in to the VMware Data Services Manager console using your Provider Administrator credentials.
From the left navigation pane, select Settings.
The Information tab appears in the Settings view.
Navigate to the VM Settings tab.
The Provider VMs table displays the list of the Provider nodes.
Identify the Provider node for which you want to update the password, click the three vertical dots in Actions column of that Provider node, and then select Update Password.
The Change Password dialog box appears.
Set the following in the Change Password dialog box, and then click CHANGE PASSWORD.

New Password | Enter the new password of the Provider node. |
Confirm Password | Re-enter the new password of the Provider node. |
The password of the Provider node is updated and the password expiry date is also updated to 90 days later.
Perform the following steps to change the password of a Agent VM:
Log in to the VMware Data Services Manager console using your Provider Administrator or Organization Administrator credentials.
From the left navigation pane, select Environments.
The list of onboarded environments appears in the Onboarded Environments section of the Environments view.
Identify the environment of the Agent VM for which you want to update the password, and then click that environment in the Onboarded Environments section of the Environments view.
The Details tab in the Environments view appears.
Navigate to the VM Settings tab, and then click UPDATE PASSWORD in the left side of the Agent VM section.
The Change Password dialog box appears.
Set the following in the Change Password dialog box, and then click CHANGE PASSWORD.

The password of the environment of the Agent VM is updated and the password expiry date is also updated to 90 days later.
Perform the following steps to change the password of a database VM:
Log in to the VMware Data Services Manager console using your Provider Administrator, Organization Administratoror, or Organization User credentials.
From the left navigation pane, select Databases.
The list of created databases appears in the Databases view.
Identify the database for which you want to update the password, and then click that database in the *Databases view.
The Details tab appears.
Navigate to the VM Settings tab, and then click UPDATE PASSWORD in the left side of the VM Details section.
The Change Password dialog box appears.
Set the following in the Change Password dialog box, and then click CHANGE PASSWORD.
