The VMware Data Services Manager password for an Organization Administrator or Organization User Local user can be reset in two ways:

  • The user clicks the Forgot Password button on the VMware Data Services Manager login screen to initiate password reset via email.
  • You may be asked to, or choose to, reset the password for an Organization Administrator or Organization User user via the VMware Data Services Manager console or API.

The new password that you specify is temporary; the Local user will be required to change the password the first time that they log in to the VMware Data Services Manager console using those credentials.

Prerequisites

Ensure that the temporary password that you set for the user meets the password policy rules of VMware Data Services Manager. The password must contain:

  • Minimum 8, maximum 20 characters,
  • At least one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter,
  • At least one number, and
  • At least one special character (?!@#$%^&*).

Procedure

Perform the following procedure to set a new temporary password for a Local user:

  1. Select Users from the left navigation pane.

This action displays the Users view, a table that lists the configured users.

  2. Examine the users listed in the table, identify the user whose password you wish to reset, and navigate to that table row.

  3. Click on the Action column value, and select Reset Password from the pop-up menu.

    The Reset Password dialog displays.

  4. Enter the new password in both the New Password and Confirm Password fields. Ensure that the new password meets the VMware Data Services Manager password policy rules described in the Prerequisites.

  5. Click RESET PASSWORD.

The user's VMware Data Services Manager console password is reset to the value that you specified.

Next Steps

Communicate the new temporary password to the user. Be sure to remind the user that they will be prompted to change this temporary password when they next log in to the VMware Data Services Manager console.
