Updating vCenter Credentials

It is a best practice across industries to update access credentials. Thus, VMware Data Services Manager allows you to update credentials to access vCenter, when required. For example, due to a change in password or any other changes in the account.

Warning: When you update the credentials to access vCenter, the in-flight database operations continue by using previous credentials. While updating vCenter credentials, if you provide invalid usernames or passwords, UPDATE INFRA DETAILS operations fail because VMware Data Services Manager validates authenticity of the vCenter credentials.

Audience

These procedures are typically performed by an Organization Administrator or Provider Administrator.

Procedure to Update vCenter Credentials

Perform the following procedure to update the vCenter credentials:

1. Log in to the VMware Data Services Manager console using your Organization Administrator or Provider Administrator credentials.

2. From the left navigation pane, select Environment.

   The Environment view table displays the currently onboarded environments.

3. Examine the environment listed in the table, identify the environment for which you you want to update the vCenter credentials, and click that row.

   The environment information in the Details tab displays.

4. To update the credentials for vCenter, click the EDIT button in the Environment Information section.

   The vCenter Credentials pane in the Environment Edit dialog box displays.

5. Set the vCenter access credentials:

   Property Name	Value
   Management Username	Enter the management username for vCenter.
   Management Password	Enter the management password for vCenter.
   Monitoring Read-Only Username	Enter the username for monitoring vCenter.
   Monitoring Read-Only Password	Enter the password for monitoring vCenter.

6. Click UPDATE.

7. To validate the success of this operation, you can monitor the status in the Recent Operations pane.

Note: Whenever the vCenter credentials are changed by a vSphere admin by using the vCenter console or API, the updated credentials should be updated for VMware Data Services Manager as well. If the vCenter credentials are not changed for VMware Data Services Manager, then the Environment health status turns to Degraded in the Environment view and the VCENTER alarm is raised in the Health tab.
