As a Provider Administrator or an Organization Administrator, you can change the owner of a Database Instance in your organization. You can assign the ownership of a Database Instance of an organization only to some other user in the same organization. For example, if an Organization User leaves an organization, you can transfer the Database Instances owned by the Organization User to some other Organization User of the same organization. Thereby, before deleting the account of an Organization User who is leaving an organization, you can save the Database Instances owned by the Organization User from deletion. Transferring database ownership also transfers backups and logs associated with this database to the new owner.

You can only change the owner of:

  • A Standalone database. When you change the owner of a Standalone database, the ownership of its backups also changes to the new owner.
  • A Primary database. When you change the owner of a Primary database, the ownership of its replicas and backups also changes o the new owner.

Prerequisites

To change the owner of a database, you must log in as a Provider Administrator or an Organization Administrator of the organization to which the database belongs.

Validating Change of Ownership of a Database

You can validate the change of ownership of the database and its replicas, if any, by viewing the User column of the Databases view.

You can validate the change of ownership of the backups of the database, if any, in the User column of the Database Backups view.

If you log in to the Provider console as the Provider Administrator, you can also validate the change in ownership of a database in the table of System Audit Events view. It is reflected as an Event Type of OWNER CHANGE with Event Details that provide information about the previous owner and the current owner.
