VMware Data Services Manager allows you to add object storage buckets for database backup storage.

VMware Data Services Manager uses Access Key and Secret Key as the username and password to access database backup storage.

Warning: While updating database backup storage credentials, if you provide an invalid Access Key or Secret Key, subsequent database operations will fail.

These procedures are typically performed by a DSM administrator.

Procedure to Create Database Backup Storage Bucket

Perform the following procedure to create a database backup storage bucket:

  1. Log in to the VMware Data Services Manager console using your DSM administrator credentials.

  2. From the left navigation pane, navigate to the Settings pane, and then select the Storage Settings tab.

  3. In the Database Backup Storage section of the Storage Settings tab, click + CREATE.

    The Create New Storage dialog box displays.

  4. In the Create New Storage dialog box, set the following:

    Property Name Value
    Name Enter the name of the database backup storage bucket.
    Type Select the type of the object storage bucket from the drop-down as either S3 COMPATIBLE STORAGE or AWS.
    Endpoint URL Provide an https URL to a secure S3 object store for the database backup storage bucket. Only an https URL is accepted.
    AWS Region If you selected the AWS storage type, specify the AWS region for the object store.
    Access Key Enter the access key of the database backup storage bucket.
    Secret Key Enter the secret key of the database backup storage bucket.
    Bucket Enter the bucket's name of the database backup storage bucket.
  5. Click CREATE.

    A new database backup storage bucket is created and listed in the Database Backup Storage section of the Storage Settings tab

Procedure to Update Database Backup Storage Credentials

It is a best practice across industries to update passwords that are used for access purposes. Thus, VMware Data Services Manager allows you to update credentials to access database backup storage, when required. For example, due to a change in password or any other changes in account.

As a DSM administrator, you can modify the credentials to access database backup storages.

Note: If you have running database clusters, changing the backup repo credentials is not supported.

When you update the credentials to access database backup storage, the in-flight database operations continue by using previous credentials.

Perform the following procedure to update the name and storage credentials:

  1. Log in to the VMware Data Services Manager console using your DSM administrator credentials.

  2. From the left navigation pane, navigate to the Settings pane, and then select the Storage Settings tab.

  3. Examine the database backup storages listed in the Database Backup Storage section of the Storage Settings tab, and then identify the the database backup storage credentials that you want to edit.

  4. Click the three vertical dots in the Action column of the database backup storage that you want to edit, and then select Edit.

    The Edit Storage dialog box displays.

  5. Update the name, the Access Key and Secret Key, as required, in the Edit Storage dialog box and then click SAVE.

  6. To validate the success of this operation, you can monitor the status in the Recent Operation pane.

Procedure to Delete a Database Backup Storage Bucket

Perform the following procedure to delete a database backup storage bucket:

  1. Log in to the VMware Data Services Manager console using your DSM administrator credentials.

  2. From the left navigation pane, navigate to the Settings pane, and then select the Storage Settings tab.

  3. Examine the database backup storages listed in the Database Backup Storage section of the Storage Settings tab, and then identify the database backup storage bucket that you want to delete.

  4. Click the three vertical dots in the Action column of the database backup storage that you want to edit, and then select Delete.

    The Delete Database Backup Storage dialog box displays.

  5. Click DELETE in the Delete Database Backup Storage dialog box to confirm that you want to delete the database backup storage.

  6. To validate the success of this operation, you can monitor the status in the Recent Operation pane.
