If you didn not enable automated backups during the database creation, you can enable them now. You can also change the location for the backups to be stored and the number of days to retain the backup.

Note: After the backup location is changed, VMware Data Services Manager will no longer be able to restore the database from backups in the old backup location.

Procedure

  1. Select Databases from the left navigation pane.

This action displays the Databases view, a table that lists the provisioned database VMs.

  2. Examine the databases listed in the table, and navigate to the database to update.

  3. Click the database Instance Name, and click the Backup tab.

  4. Click the EDIT button in the Backup Configuration section.

  5. In the Backup Configuration dialog box, change or set the following parameters, and click Next:

    Property Name Value
Enable Backups If you haven't enabled backups during the database creation, use the slider to opt-in for automated backups.
You cannot disable the backup that was enabled during the database creation.
Backup Location Set or change the location for the backups to be stored.
Backup Retention Specify the number of days to retain a backup on the selected storage location.
  6. In the Customize Backup Schedule dialog box, edit an existing schedule or click Add Customized Backup Schedule to add a new one.

    Keep in mind the following:

    • You cannot delete existing customized backup schedule, but can edit it.
    • The name of the schedule is non-editable.
    • You can edit Backup Type, Start Time, and Frequency.
    • If you select the frequency type as Hourly, the start time is fixed to 00hr00mins in 24hrs format and cannot be edited.
    • If the schedule includes any complex cron expression, which cannot be parsed or decoded through the UI, edit it through the API.
  7. Click SAVE to initiate changes.

  8. Monitor the progress of the task in the database Operations tab.
