VMware Dynamic Environment Manager provides end users with a personalized and dynamic Windows desktop. Through VMware Dynamic Environment Manager, you can customize the desktop by providing access to IT resources based on the role, device, and location of the user. In this way, you can create a desktop that adapts to the specific needs of the user.

VMware Dynamic Environment Manager is available in Standard and Enterprise editions. DEM Standard Edition assists VMware Horizon® Standard Edition and VMware Horizon® Advanced Edition customers with user profile management. DEM Enterprise Edition is the full-featured version of VMware Dynamic Environment Manager. For a list of the specific options available in DEM Standard Edition, see the VMware Dynamic Environment Manager Administration Guide.

VMware Dynamic Environment Manager is available in standalone mode and integration mode. Use integration mode to integrate VMware Dynamic Environment Manager with VMware Workspace ONE® UEM. Both modes use configuration files for personalization and application configuration management of VMware Dynamic Environment Manager. In standalone mode, the configuration files are stored in a configuration SMB share, which is a central share on a file server. In integration mode, the configuration files are contained in a VMware Dynamic Environment Manager config profile file. Using Workspace ONE UEM, you can target the VMware Dynamic Environment Manager config profile file to specific smart groups to distribute the VMware Dynamic Environment Manager configuration to Workspace ONE UEM endpoints.

VMware Dynamic Environment Manager manages user and Windows settings and dynamically configures the desktop. For example, it can create drive and printer mappings, file type associations, and shortcuts. VMware Dynamic Environment Manager can also manage and provide shortcuts to applications such as ThinApp to users.
