Associate a network printer to the user environment.

Important: To avoid slow logon times and other logon issues, add printer drivers to the base image.

Procedure

  1. Start the VMware Dynamic Environment Manager Management Console.
  2. Click the User Environment tab.
  3. Select Printer Mappings and click Create.
  4. Enter a name for the settings definition.
  5. Configure the printer mapping settings.
    Option Description
Remote path The UNC path of the printer. Can contain environment variables.
    Timeout options
(Optional) Configure the time that FlexEngine must wait to complete the printer mapping process, and select an action to either terminate the mapping or continue in the background (optionally at a lower priority) when the mapping times out.
    • Use global settings. If selected, FlexEngine uses the timeout and action settings configured in the Group Policy settings or the NoAD.XML file.
    • If mapping takes more than ___ seconds, ___. If selected, enter the time (in seconds) that FlexEngine must wait for the printer mapping, and select an action that FlexEngine must take when printer mapping does not complete within the specified timeout.
      • Continue in background. Continue to run the printer mapping in the background without changing the process priority.
      • Continue at reduced priority. Reduce the priority of the printer mapping process, so there is less impact on the CPU.
      • Terminate. Terminate the printer mapping process.
Default printer (Optional) If selected, the printer is marked as the default.
Run once (Optional) If selected, the printer mapping only occurs once.
Undo at logoff and refresh during printer mapping refresh (Optional) If selected, the printer is unmapped when a user logs out and it is processed again during a user environment refresh.
Run asynchronously (Optional) If selected, the printer mapping occurs in the background. If not selected, FlexEngine waits for the printer mapping to finish before continuing.
Note: You cannot use Run once and Undo at logoff at the same time.
  6. Click Save.
Note: The printer mapping status is captured in the FlexEngine logs. If the process is still running in the background, the status is captured at logoff.
