Creating the USB Drive Boot Media

The Edge Compute Stack service currently supports builds from USB drives and ISO files. This section explains how to create a bootable USB drive used to install the Edge Compute Stack Host. VMware recommends a USB 3.0 drive for the Edge Compute Stack service to achieve best performance, but slower deployments still succeed with older USB drives.

The ESXi basic image and Kubernetes cluster is automatically deployed and run from the USB boot media. The following steps help you create a bootable Edge Compute Stack media from your development machine. This USB drive is used to build your Edge Compute Stack host.

Select the correct operating system on your development machine and follow the instructions to create your Edge Compute Stack bootable USB drive.
