This section provides steps to deploy the virtual Edge Compute Stack host using an ISO media file.
Procedure
- On a machine that has network access to VMware Virtual Center or VMware ESXi, download the VMware Edge Compute Stack ISO image.
- Log in to VMware Virtual Center or the VMware ESXi web UI: https://vc_or_esxi_hostname_or_ip/ui URL.
- Go to the storage inventory sub-tree view, and then click a datastore that has sufficient space.
- Click Upload. A dialog box opens to browse your file directory. Go to the directory where the Edge Compute Stack ISO installer file is downloaded and select that file.
- Create a new virtual machine through Virtual Machines inventory sub-tree view.
- Click Create / Register VM, and then select Create a new virtual machine.
- Enter a unique name for the virtual machine.
- Select Compatibility as ESXi 7.0 U2 virtual machine.
- Select Guest OS Family as Other.
- Select Guest OS Version as VMware ESXi 7.0 or later.
- Select a datastore with sufficient free space (greater than 50 GB) to deploy the virtual machine.
- Select the following settings for the virtual machine in the customization step:
- 4 processor cores and select the Expose hardware assisted virtualization to the guest OS check box. Expand the CPU option if this check box is not visible.
- Specify 16000 MB memory.
- For Hard Disk 1, specify 80GB.
- For Network Adapter 1, select VM Network or similar network port group where virtual machines are expected to be attached. The workload network port group is different from the management network port group. Keep the Connected check box selected.
- Click VM Options. Under Boot Options, deactivate Secure Boot.
- For CD/DVD Drive 1, expand the settings and perform the following steps:
From the drop-down menu, select Datastore ISO file.
Ensure that the Connected check box is selected.
Ensure that the Connect at power on check box is selected.
For CD/DVD Media, click Browse, and then go to the datastore where the Edge Compute Stack installer ISO file is downloaded and select the ISO file. With this configuration, when the virtual machine boots for the first time, it boots from the Edge Compute Stack installer ISO CD ROM.
- Click NEXT and FINISH.
- After the virtual machine is created, power it on.
