Virtual machines can be deployed to an Edge Compute Stack host from the Git repository, by including a YAML file that defines how to deploy the virtual machine. Example virtual machine specifications can be found in the ECSExample repository for both Linux and Windows. You must not include http/https prefix in the image name address to the OVA. It is detected automatically and is compatible with the container image naming specification.
Virtual Machine Classes
To size virtual machines as they are deployed, the Edge Compute Stack provides default classes, or you can create your own. To use a class, associate it with the target vSphere Namespace and reference the class in the manifest.
About Virtual Machine Classes
A virtual machine class is a request for resource reservations for processing power on the virtual machine, including CPU and memory (RAM). For example, the virtual machine class type named "guaranteed-large" reserves 4 CPU and 16 GB RAM.
The virtual machine disk size is set by the OVA template, not the virtual machine class definition.
There are two reservation types for virtual machine classes:
Guaranteed |
The guaranteed class fully reserves its configured resources. This means that for a given cluster the spec.policies.resources.requests matches the spec.hardware settings.

For production workloads, it is recommended to use the guaranteed virtual machine class type. |

The best effort class allows resources to be overcommitted.
Caution:
Overcommitting might cause the resources to run out. If contention occurs, other workloads may be impacted. |
