Crawlers collect data through SPAN/TAP, SD-WAN integration, and from other network devices using SNMP, Syslog, and API integration. This section provides instructions to setup the VMware Edge Network Intelligence (ENI) Crawler.

Prerequisites

  • Check that your order has arrived complete and in a good condition.
  • A packing list has been included with your order. If possible, keep the original box and shipping materials in case you ever have an issue with your hardware that requires a return and replacement. If there are any problems, from a missing component to shipping damage, email us immediately at [email protected].
  • For proper Crawler operation, you must add the following FQDNs to the Customer's Allowlist and ensure that the Crawler can reach these destinations.

Procedure

  1. Connect the Ethernet cable into the Management port (DHCP is activated by default).
  2. Connect the cable carrying SPAN into SFP port.
  3. Attach the power cable and press the power button.

The Crawler obtains an IP through the DHCP and boot up. Once the Crawler is ready, you can log in through SSH or by connecting a keyboard and monitor to the VGA port on the Crawler.

Management Ports

GB1 port is the Management port of the VMware Edge Network Intelligence physical device. Using an Ethernet cable, Connect GB1 port and a switch port that can pass traffic upstream. SFP ports are used for receiving data from spanned ports. Plug in your SFP module into switch port that will be configured as SPAN ports.

The lower port on the left is a Management port of VMware Edge Network Intelligence Mini Crawler. Using an Ethernet cable, connect this port and a switch port that can pass traffic upstream. The two ports at the top are used for receiving data from spanned ports. Connect these ports into switch port that will be configured as SPAN ports.
