This topic explains how to install VMware GemFire and provides links to additional information.

When you install a new version of GemFire software on an existing GemFire system, keep the previous version available until the system upgrade has completed and been verified.

  • Installing GemFire

    You can install GemFire in the following ways:

    • Option 1: Install GemFire from a Compressed TAR File

      Follow the instructions in Installing VMware GemFire from a Compressed TAR File on Windows, Unix, and Linux to install and configure GemFire on every physical and virtual machine where you will run GemFire.

    • Option 2: Install GemFire from an OVA

      1. Log in to the VMware Tanzu Network.

      2. On the VMware GemFire product page, use the drop-down menu to select the version of GemFire to download.

      3. Click VMware GemFire for vSphere to download the GemFire OVA.

      4. To deploy the downloaded OVA, follow the instructions in Deploy an OVF or OVA Template in the VMware vSphere product documentation. The default username is gemfire and the default password is gemfire. The administrator is responsible for resetting this password after deployment and configuration of networking, firewall, and disk configuration.

  • VMware GemFire Clients

    You can use a VMware GemFire client to connect your application to a GemFire instance.

  • Installing GemFire Extensions

    You can add GemFire packages that enhance the functionality of the core platform.

  • Uninstalling GemFire

Obtaining and Installing Security Updates

New versions of GemFire often include important security fixes. VMware recommends that you stay current with the latest releases.
