This topic provides guidlines for region naming in VMware Tanzu GemFire.
To be able to perform all available operations on your data regions, follow these region naming restrictions:

The only characters permitted in region names by default are:
- alphanumeric characters (
ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZabcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz0123456789) - hyphens (
-) - periods (
.) - underscores (
_).
- alphanumeric characters (
- Region names are case sensitive.
- The slash character (
/) is not allowed in region names. - Your region names cannot begin with two underscore characters (
__). This usage is reserved for internal use.
Note:
By default, the following characters are not allowed in region names:
- left brackets (
[) - right brackets (
]) - carats (
^) - backticks (
`) - backslashes (
\)
To use any of these special characters in region names, set the value of the GemFire system property gemfire.allowSpecialRegionNameCharacters to true.
