The Greenplum Storage Sizer for Two-Tiered Architectures is a web-based tool that helps you determine optimal size and specifications to accurately size your storage solution based on the requirements of your workload. You enter information about your environment, and the tool provides the recommended provisioned capacity you must configure to meet your requirements.

The following table describes the different parameters the tool requires as input:

Name Description Value Range Default
Greenplum Data Size (TiB) Uncompressed database size 1-9999 N/A
Number of Primaries The number of Greenplum Database primary segments 1-100 N/A
Greenplum Primaries Operating Reservation (%) Percentage of segment host space used for Greenplum files, such as logging, workfiles, temporary tables, etc. 1-100 25
Greenplum Database Mirroring Whether segment mirroring is enabled on/off off
Segment Operating System Size (GiB) The amount of space assigned to the operating system for the primary segment hosts 1-9999 50
Master Data Size (GiB) How much space to reserve for the Greenplum master files, such as catalog, information, logging, WAL, workfiles, etc. 1-9999 100
Master Operating System Size (GiB) The amount of space assigned to the operating system for the master host 1-9999 100
vSphere Datastore Operating Reservation (%) Percentage of free space in the datastore for DRS to rebalance master hosts and segment hosts across ESXi hosts 1-100 20

The tool provides the following outputs in the form of graphics:

Database Layer shows the total space that is used for Greenplum Database data, and how much is reserved for the operating systems within the Greenplum primary segments.

Virtual Machine Layer shows the total space used for storing data on all Greenplum master hosts and segment hosts , and the overhead of space used for the master, as well as the operating system storage for all the master hosts and segment hosts.

vSphere Datastore shows the total space used for all Greenplum master hosts and segment hosts, and how much space is reserved for vSphere datastore operations.

Recommended Storage Size is the total storage you must have available in your vSphere datastore for the values you provided.
