When performing migrations from non-vSphere virtual machines, you must install the HCX Sentinel on all guest virtual machines requiring migration using HCX OS Assisted Migration (OSAM). The sentinel agent gathers the system configuration from the guest virtual machine and assists with the data replication.
Prerequisites
OSAM is activated in Service Mesh.
Procedure
- In the vCenter Server for the HCX Connector, navigate to Interconnect > Service Mesh > Sentinel Management.
HCX displays the Sentinel Management interface. This interface displays the deployed OSAM appliance version for the HCX Manager, the Sentinel download options, and the inventory of virtual machine workloads where Sentinel software has been installed. For the list of workloads, you can manage Sentinel software upgrades and perform manual uninstall operations.
- Download the software bundle appropriate for the environment that you are migrating.
The Sentinel software bundle is downloaded to the local machine with the name <SGW-name>-linux-sentinel-installer.sh or <SGW-name>-windows-sentinel-bundle.zip.
- For Linux workloads, install the Linux software on all guest VMs that require migration.
- Connect to your guest system using SSH.
- Copy the linux-sentinel-installer.sh file to the guest system.
- At the terminal, enter the command bash linux-sentinel-installer.sh.
The software prompts you for permission to start the installation.
- Enter yes, and press Enter.
- For Windows workloads, install the Windows Sentinel software on all guest VMs that require migration.
- Log in to the guest system.
- Copy the windows-sentinel-bundle.zip file to the guest system.
- Unzip the bundle.
- To run the installer, double-click install-sentinel.exe.
- Click Next to continue.
- Accept the license agreement and click Next to continue.
- Choose the location where you to install the software and click Next.
- Click Finish.
