HCX updates may include new features, software fixes and security patches.

HCX updates are published periodically as a set for HCX Connector and HCX Cloud Manager.

Update procedures vary depending on the activation mode used when deploying HCX: Local, Connected, or Evaluation. For more information about these modes, see HCX Activation and Licensing.

Overview of HCX Updates

The following high-level process applies when updating HCX sites:

  1. When VMware releases an update, the HCX admin identifies the latest release. Notification of the release depends on whether the system is running in Connected Mode where the site has connections to VMware, or Local Mode where the site has no connection to VMware for notifications or access to updates..
    • For sites in Local Mode, HCX admins review current release information for the latest updates on support.broadcom.com.
    • For sites in Connected Mode, metadata for the release is published to the HCX client systems. The HCX Manager displays a notification banner indicating that an update is available.
  2. The HCX admin identifies site paired HCX client systems, and applies the updates to the paired HCX Manager systems. You can update HCX Connector and HCX Cloud systems during separate maintenance windows, but for optimal compatibility update both systems together.
  3. After updating the HCX Manager appliances, the HCX admin navigates to Interconnect > Service Mesh and updates the HCX component appliances.
