VMware Blast codec multi-threaded encoding leverages multiple CPU cores in a system to spread the load across the several cores available to reduce encoding time.

Attention: This feature requires the following agent and client versions:
  • Windows - Agent 2206 or later and Client 2206 or later
  • Linux - Agent 2206 or later and Client 2206 or later
Note the following:
  • When the required agent and client versions are in use, multi-threaded encoding is activated by default.
  • There is also a required setting in the Windows or Linux client. See the Horizon Client for Windows Guide or Horizon Client for Linux Guide, depending on the client in use.

The Windows registry setting is shown below.

Registry setting Description
\HKLM\SOFTWARE\VMware, Inc.\VMware Blast\Config\BlastCodecEnableMultiSlice (default=1) (REG_SZ) Activates VMware Blast codec multi-threaded encoding. Values are as follows.
  • 1 = Activated
  • 0 = Deactivated

Default value is 1.

The Linux configuration setting is shown below.

"RemoteDisplay.enableBlastCodecMultiSlice"); Activates VMware Blast codec multi-threaded encoding. Values are as follows.
  • 1 = Activated
  • 0 = Deactivated
